Keiki and Teens Program

WHO

Kids 5 years old through teens.  Club membership required. (Note that an Individual membership can include one adult and one child; Family membership includes two adults and any number of children)

WHEN

Our first meeting will be on Saturday May 13, 2023.  We will meet by the canoes at 9:30am.  We ask that parents or a responsible adult remain with paddlers during practice and canoe clean up.  We are usually done by 11:00-11:30am.

Ages 5 through 19

The program focuses on developing paddling skills, learning about canoe culture, and ocean stewardship.  Young paddlers have the opportunity to work as a team and participate in our summer sprint regattas.  For those with more experience and look for a challenge, we have long distance races (approximately 2 miles).

DETAILS

Please be sure you have filled out both our membership form and the NCOCA waiver ahead of time (waiver found at the end of our membership form).

We provide paddles and PFDs (required for those 5-12 and anyone who cannot swim).  Dress in layers appropriate for water sports; that means neoprene, spandex, or other quick-dry items.  Avoid demin, cotton, and other heavy, non-stretchable clothing.  For the feet, booties or reef shoes are best.  Don't forget a hat and light jacket.

Younger paddlers are also invited to try paddling at any of our Sunday recreational paddles - the 1st and 3rd Sunday every month at 8:00am.  See our FAQs page for additional questions and resources.
